TOPPESFIELD WINES

We decided to focus in the first years of the vineyard on good root development to ensure high quality vines for the long term. This ‘investment’ has paid off with our grapes proving to be of consistently high quality as demonstrated by the list of awards received to date.

We are delighted to have won East Anglia’s Wine of the Year and a Gold Medal for two of our four Bacchus vintages to date (2015 and 2017). We believe that this demonstrates the consistently high quality of our grapes. Indeed, we have been told that our attention to detail in the vineyard has resulted in Toppesfield being a ‘model’ vineyard.

Wine GB Awards 2019: 

We are delighted to have won a bronze medal in the national Wine GB Awards for our Toppesfield 2018 Bacchus Reserve. The wines were judged at Hotel du Vin, Wimbledon, on 14th & 15th May 2018 by the following judges: Susie Barrie MW (Chair), Oz Clarke (Co-Chair), Sam Caporn MW, Rebecca Palmer, Philip Tuck MW, Alex Hunt MW, Pierpaolo Petrassi MW, Richard Hemming MW, Sue Daniels, Hamish Anderson, Harry Eyres and David Burlton. WineGB Awards are sponsored by Country Life, Hotel du Vin and Waitrose.

This gold award is from the prestigious Sommelier Wine Awards for our Bacchus Reserve 2016.

Coworth Park Ascot’s Michael Fiducia thought Toppesfield Bacchus was defined by its elegance, describing ‘elderflower notes with light nuances of gooseberry and greengage’.

Cheese at Leadenhall’s Robert Mason described it as ‘savoury on the nose, with some ripe lychee, peach and jasmine aromas, leading to a weighty body, with ripe fruit and fresh acidity’, adding that it would be an ‘ideal match for risotto’.

In the 2018 Decanter World Wine Awards we have won Silver for the Toppesfield 2016 Bacchus Reserve and Bronze for the 2016 Toppesfield Pinot Noir Rosé. Decanter World Wine Awards was launched in 2004 and is the world’s largest Wine Competition. As the UK wine industry continues to grow, so does the number of UK submissions to the Decanter WWW. In 2018 there were 118 medal winning wines in the UK, a higher number than the United States who submitted nearly double the amount of wines into to the competition.

In 2018 we were also awarded a Silver medal for our 2016 Bacchus and a Bronze for our 2016 Pinot Noir Rosé in the Independent English Wine Awards (IEWA).

Toppesfield Wine Centre

The Wine Centre was part funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. The development and construction of a wine centre was initiated to promote sales of Toppesfield Wines and Toppesfield Beers, creating new employment opportunities in the village and rural tourism through vineyard tours, wine tastings and cultural events.
