Official Opening of the Wine Centre. Saturday July 13th

We are starting to organise the official opening of the new Wine Centre on Saturday 13th of July at 1pm. Further details of the day, ticket prices etc will be updated over the next month or so but we would love you to save the date before your weekends get booked up for the summer. This event will be open to adults and children.

A lecture on Michael Ayrton by his biographer, Justine Hopkins. Saturday 27th July

Tickets: £25 including lecture, glass of wine and a light lunch.

Michael Ayrton is a famous neo-romantic artist, sculptor and writer who lived at Bradfields (now also the location of Toppesfield Vineyard) between 1951 and 1975. Bradfields had a special place in Ayrton’s life because it was in the 15th century barn studio that he produced many of his major works, including possibly his biggest personal triumph, the Arkville Minotaur.

Justine is Michael’s step-granddaughter. She spent a lot of her childhood at Bradfields when her mother was Michael Ayrton’s sculpture assistant. She now works as a freelance lecturer in Art History for the Victoria and Albert Museum; Bristol, London, Oxford and Cambridge Universities; the Tate, National and National Portrait Galleries; Sotheby’s, Christies’ and assorted independent institutions.

During her lecture, Justine will focus on the artworks produced at Bradfields during the 25 years that Michael lived there and, weather permitting, provide a tour of the studio and the gardens.

The Wine Centre houses a photographic exhibition of some of Ayrton’s works from when they were displayed in the gardens at Bradfields; our sincere thanks go to David Oelman at the Fry Gallery in Saffron Walden for his most generous assistance in pulling together the Ayrton exhibition.

Tickets available via: [email protected] or 01787 237228.

Soft Launch of the Toppesfield Wine Centre

Thanks to the Frinton Classic Car Group for being the ‘guinea pigs’ on the soft launch of Toppesfield Vineyard’s new Wine Centre. Check out some of their amazing cars below. We were so lucky to have the most beautiful weather for our vineyard tour and tasting of Toppesfield Wines.

New Listings

Following our initial listing by Majestic Wines in Braintree, we are delighted to advise that Toppesfield Wines are now stocked by additional Majestic stores in Sudbury, Colchester, Ipswich and Kendal. We are delighted that we have been able to benefit from the extensive knowledge and expertise of each local Majestic team.

Toppesfield Wine Centre

The Wine Centre was part funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. The development and construction of a wine centre was initiated to promote sales of Toppesfield Wines and Toppesfield Beers, creating new employment opportunities in the village and rural tourism through vineyard tours, wine tastings and cultural events.
